Movies

So, I just saw "Australia" with Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman. I thought it was excellent and will probably be Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Anyone else see it yet?

She does an excellent job, and is very convincingly British for the camera.

I saw it, and as an Australian Im still a little unsure. It was good an all but it really seems like it was just an expensive tourism campaign. And it really was. Our tourism people here have latched on to the film and they arernt letting go. Isnt if flopping in America?

I don't follow things too well, but I thought it was great. Everyone who saw it seems to have loved it. I'd say its a sure-fire Oscar winner, except some leftist is making a suck-up movie about a gay politician who got shot, and we all know the Hollywood activism... so while "Australia" deserves nothing but the highest praise, it might not get it.

And yes, I do want to visit Australia now. Your tourism office would be proud.

Haha well as you witnessed every single Australia cliche in history who wouldnt? I must say I cringed at the part when waltzing matilda was being sung in the pub. I did like a lot of it though.

Now I have to say that I do like Waltzing Matilda. I first heard it on a WW2 Australian reenacting website, and I knew at once that I liked it.

That said, it is rather stereotypical isn't it?

Haha yes. But I suppose its not completely unrealistic. Its a song we all know. All australians sing that in schools when they are young you know. and at big sporting events its often sung here and there.

OK, thats actually cool.

In the South, Americans used to sing "Dixie" at footballv(the American kind) games, but then it was banned for not being politically correct. Now we don't really sing at games. But we do start off baseball games with our national anthem... of course I don't really understand baseball...

I've always thought "Advance Australia Fair" was nicer than our American anthem. But I suppose the grass is always greener.

next time i get to a movie theater i will definitely see it. Though since the nearest movie theater is 40 minutes away, who knows when that'll be.

Aye i know. I live in the friggin Canadian wilderness. All we got is trees, a big lake, and snow. We actually had a movie theater in our crummy little downtown area but it caught fire and it's been closed down for the past 3 months. It was suspected arson which doesn't make much sense to me, why would someone want to take away the nearest movie theater we got? So now i gotta go all the way down to vancouver *sigh*

though i'm in England right now so i'm definitely going to try and see a movie while i'm here, lots of theaters around. Though i don't know if Australia has come out in the UK yet. I should check...
