I cant picture defying gravity in any way working in a live-action film. It just doesn't seem like it will be able to work unless it looks completely corny and stupid. Id hate to see it leave though.
I agree. Corny and stupid or dark and menacing unless they rearange it somehow. Leave out the beginning, maybe. As much as I love it in the show, I can't see it working on film either. Let's hope whoever ends up making the movie can!
I havnt seen 2001 myself. But Ive heard so many people who think its pretty much the best thing since sliced bread. Im eager now to watch it and check it out.

You should be prepared for confusion and boredom.
It isn't very good? I know that I won't really know til I see it for myself.
Too bad they've pushed the film's premiere forwards, I'd love to show Wicked to my friends who can't go to London and see it! :D
I wonder how they'll do Defying Gravity, too... It's pretty cool on stage. I had a pretty cheap seat, though, and it was all the way up the auditorium. And I had a feeling I sat upper than where Elphaba rised. Took the power of the thing away... ;D But how can they make it look nice on screen? I think they could use a lot of close up shots of how the broom rises, how Elphaba's feet don't touch the floor anymore and how the Grimmerie is left lying there, but I have no idea how they can make the whole thing work... Well, I hope they'll make it great!
And what comes to the Tim Burton discussion in the last page... I'm a big fan of his, but I wouldn't say he should direct Wicked. Firstly, I remember reading he doesn't really enjoy stage musicals and Sweeney Todd was an exception to that rule. Secondly, there's just something about Wicked that I don't think would fit to his style. I think Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a good film, but that kind of style he uses for colourful things probably wouldn't fit Wicked. Hard to explain, but that's what I believe...
I hate that they've put this film in IMDbPro so I can't read the discussion board anymore. I never wrote anything there, but itwas quite amusing to read the arguments about casting OBC vs. new people in the film. There was a lot of funny arguments, like those that stated the OBC have to be in the film, even though the plot would have to change so people start university when they're in their forties in Oz. :D
Do you have anyone in mind that you'd like to cast in this film, btw? I don't really have an opinion yet, other than that they shouldn't go for the OBC (expect for cameos maybe). I really love the original cast recording, but they're getting too old for the roles soon, unfortunately, and the year of release of the film seems to get further away all the time...
