Well, I ignored all your advice and watched Pirates 2 anyway... And I think I haven't laughed so much while watching a film since I saw Blues Brothers. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to see the third one! :D
Hah well I really liked Star Trek, it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat, lots and lots of action. I never really watched the shows though so I may not be a good judge at how true to the story it was.
Kirk was hot though

Yeah, the actions scenes were so out of reality that they made me laugh, too. It seems more unrealistic often means more fun... :D Kinda like when my class was watching the fourth Indiana Jones... We had so fun! Everyone kept cracking up at every action scene, especially the one where he went into a fridge and survived from a nuclear explosion... ;D
Cast was excellent, visuals were stunning, dialogue was good. Downside: I hate the whole alternate universe thing, it complicates this and detracts from the original. It would be better as a straight-forward prequel.
They can still salvage it for me with the next one by repairing the damage they did, but I doubt they will. Hollywood generally prefers to persist in doomed realities rather than correct errors.
My last words of the Pirates talk this time: I watched the third one yesterday. It was okay, but not so good as the first two. Too serious, the few jokes drowned in the overall seriousness around them. And
Spoiler
Will's and Elizabeth's ending made me sadder than the ending of Titanic.
And these spoiler tags are a neat invention! :D
I could see Star Trek if the tickets weren't so expensive and if we'd have a cinema in this town... Nearest one is in Helsinki. 25 minutes walk to the station + 21 minutes in the train + 10 minutes walk to the theater.
Next time I'll go to the movie theater I'll see Coraline. I love stop motion!
Ah Starlene I know what you mean. Im really looking forward to Coraline. Try see a film called Mary and Max. Its out in cinemas in australia now...one of the best stop motions ive seen in ages.
Well its an Australian film so maybe not, but hopefully you will be able to see it one day. Even if it means downloading or something. You should check out the trailer on youtube.
I saw Avatar a couple days ago and was very impressed. Overnight all other effects are obsolete. This is changing the way we do digital effects. Suddenly the effects look real, you can't tell where live-action ends. The plot is fun, not overly complex but it doesn't need to be.
I saw Avatar, too. I agree with you about the effects, it looked absolutely beautiful.
And the plot was fine up to the point where they got their war machines out and blew things up. I generally don't like that kind of action movies, and I just felt that the war thing at the end was at least three times too long and totally boring. Couldn't help yawning...
But it was beautiful to watch and fun for the first two hours!
Starlene: Yes, I can understand that. The first two hours are an amazing excursion, but the last hour is needed to wrap it up. Overall an awesome film though.
That happened to me the first time I tried to see it at imax. Can you buy your tickets online?
On a side note, Avatar is now the third highest grossing film of all time (and will soon become #2), and it is also the fastest film to ever make a billion US dollars.
wow that is crazy! Yeah I wanted to see it in imax 3D but that was sold out, they had regular 3D and 2D available but I felt like if I saw it I might as well go all out. When I do get another chance to go, i'm definitely going the buy online option. It is crazy how popular this film is.
