Heres some stuff from a news article about the power. Just to show how messed up it is here right now. I didnt have power last night from 6 - 11. And we have no torches! --- Power outages caused by an explosion at an electrical substation wreaked havoc across heatwave-stricken Victoria last night.
All Melbourne train services were cancelled and about 500,000 homes and businesses were left without electricity in the city's west, some parts of the CBD and western Victoria.
Victorians should brace themselves for more power blackouts as bushfires and the worst heatwave in recorded history threaten power supplies and equipment, a state government spokesman told AAP.
The explosion at the SP AusNet power station in South Morang occurred about 3.15pm when a transformer sent shrapnel into the air, sparking several grass fires.
Connex staff told thousands of commuters at Flinders Street Railway Station trying to get home at the end of the working week that they would have to find other means of travel because there was no power for trains.
A number of city buildings were evacuated, with the firemen called in to rescue office workers trapped in stalled lifts.
Traffic lights in the city stopped working and signals on the rail network also failed.
Melbourne again endured a top temperature above 43 degrees on Friday, marking the first time since records began in 1855 that the city notched up three consecutive days so hot. ----- They are just some little bits from a much bigger article. But how crazy is that, we havnt had this many extremly hot days in a row since 1855! when the records actually begun! no wonder we arent coping with it.
Thats nuts. But are you dealing with the fires okay? As a Californian I know what fires are like, and have been uncomfortably close for some of them. The firebomber aircraft are actually based out of where I live.
The fires arent near my town this time, though they have been in the past. They are having heaps of problems with the fires becuase its so hot the fireman cant cope with the heat while fighting. Some have been hospitalised and they have to keep changing over teams heaps.
Good News! This afternoon we have finally had a bit of a cool change. Theres a nice cool breeze coming through our town. Its still going to be hot for the next week but hopefully nothing like the past few days. Six people have died from the heat though and the fires still arent under control. But hopefully with this breeze they wont turn our power off again.
Generally we lose one fireman each fire season. Sometimes its the heat or the flame, other times its exhaustion. We lost a fire chief a few years ago because he fell asleep while driving.
